Wingham shooter Peter Thurtell, a fixture at top level shooting for a number of years, has broken through for his first Queens Prize in Brisbane.

Peter took out the 125th QRA Queens, against hot competition in a big field of more than 300 shooters at Belmont and also secured the Queens-Duncan Grand Aggregate.

He shot a possible 50 on the final challenging 1000 yard range to finish the Queens with 498.61.  Victory was only secured when perennial champion James Corbett from Benalla dropped two shots on the last to also finish on 498, but with 58 centres.

Young Jandowae shooter Brendan Parkins had a splendid week finishing third in the Queens with 496.42 and fourth in the Grand Aggregate.

Central member Gordon Duncan was fourth in the Queens and top veteran shooter.
