Biloela shooter Charles Arrowsmith has continued his hot form in 2014 with a victory in the Central Queensland Rifle Association Championships held at the Raglan range over the Easter weekend.

He won a close tussle with Raglan member Thomas Ryan going shot for shot over eight ranges from 300 to 900 metres in the two-day contest.

A challenging wind which blew up at the final and longest range proved decisive with Charles missing a single bull and Thomas three. This produced aggregate scores of 396.39 and 394.40 respectively.

Charles followed up his success in winning the prestigious 2014 Club Champion of Champions Trophy at the Belmont range in Brisbane.

Rodney Prayle from Maryborough had a strong CQ championship finishing third after narrowly winning a three-match contest held on Friday.

The B Grade championship was won by Raglan Target Sports member Bill Kneebone, with Ipswich member Patrick Mayfield taking out C Grade.

The strong trend towards scope rifle shooting continued with contestants in equal number to the traditional open sight competitors.

Gemfields Rifle Club member Nick Williamson won the F Standard A Grade championship for the fifth year in succession.

Norm Cross, also from Gemfields, won the F Standard B Grade and Karl Bell from Brisbane took out the F Open title.
