Ashley takes Crows Nest Trophy

Ashley Bidgood won his club’s Open Shoot at Crows Nest on Sunday without missing a bullseye in the 30 shot match. He is a member of the Queensland team which will compete in the national championships in Bendigo at the end of March.One of the state’s top rifle shooters Ashley Bidgood opened the year in splendid form, dominating a high class field at the first Open Prize Shoot for 2014 at the weekend.

Competing on home turf, Ashley shot the only possible score in challenging windy conditions to secure the A Grade trophy at Crows Nest-Goombungee on Sunday.

His aggregate of 150 with 19 centre bulls in the 30 shot match made him a clear winner. Three shooters dropped 2 shots each to finish on 148 with Roger North from Goondiwindi taking second with 16 centres. Darren Enslin from Pacific Rifle Club placed third with 15 centres and North Arm’s Colin Cole fourth with 13.

The Crows Nest Open drew a great crowd of 78 competitors with members of the Queensland Team assembling for a competitive hit out ahead of the National Teams’ Championships which will be held in Bendigo, Victoria at the end of March.

Ashley Bidgood started the weekend with a possible 75 in a 15 shot sweepstakes on Saturday, but with five centre bulls he had to be content with second placing behind Kim O’Loghlen from Natives who scored an impressive 75 with seven centres.

Garry Henderson from Natives Rifle Club won the B Grade competition and Darling Downs member Glenn Picton took out C Grade.

Goondiwindi Rifle Club shooters won both the keenly contested scope rifle classes with Col Sutton taking the F Open trophy and Gary Haeusler winning F Standard A and Graham Sells from Dalby-Tara winning F Standard B.

The next event on the rifle shooting calendar is the Champion of Champions which will be at the Duncan Range at Belmont on Saturday 22 March. This competition will be followed by the QRA Country vs City Matches, also on the Duncan Range, in Brisbane on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 March.
