Ipswich will have a special place in the celebration of 45 years of the Queensland Ladies Rifle Team in Brisbane on August 14.
Club legend Jim Rush was an early supporter of women’s participation in the sport which began to flourish as the military ceded control of rifle shooting in the early 1960s.

While shooting is one of the few sports where women compete on equal terms with men, a ladies national team championship was inaugurated in Victoria in 1968.

Jim’s daughter Lyn, who now lives in Cairns, was a member of the first Queensland team.

Young Ipswich shooter Elyse Morrison is continuing the club tradition as the newest member of the Queensland team which has been victorious at the last two national championships.

Anniversary celebrations being held on the eve of the Queens Prize shoot at Belmont include the opening of a historical display in the Queensland Rifle Association Museum and a special ladies versus gentlemen match.
