·        Nominations for Board.  In accordance with the rotation policy, nominations are called for the position of one Board member.  The nomination form is enclosed.  Nominations must be received by the Executive Officer by 22 January 2010.

 

·        Queensland Goodwill Team – Bisley 2010.  It is intended to assemble a Queensland Goodwill Team from those members at Bisley next year.  The Team will compete in four teams matches.

 

·        Membership Target.  We are pleased to advise that the membership target of 1150 full bore and field and rimfire members set last year has already been exceeded reaching over 1200.  Congratulations to Clubs who are actively working at increasing their membership.

 

·        Team Appointments.  The following team appointments for 2010 have been confirmed:

·        AGM and Country V City Match/Champion of Champions.  The 2010 AGM, Champion of Champions and Country versus City Teams Matches will be held as follows:

 

o       26 March  AGM to commence at 1.00 pm, followed by the Workshop, then dinner.

o       27 March  AM Champions of Champions and PM practice alongside MDRA at 1000 yds.  A BBQ will held in the evening.

o       28 March  Country v City Teams matches.

 

Nominations for the Country and City teams are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 5 March 2010.

 

·        QRA Queens.  The QRA Queens programme for 2010 will be:

 

o       7 August               Brisbane RC OPM

o       8 August               MDRA OPM

o       9 August               Optical Championships

o       10-11 August       Duncan

o       12-14 August       Queens

 

·        Congratulations.  QRA wish to congratulate Damien Birgan from Brisbane Sporting Clays on winning the World Championship held recently in Warrnambool Victoria.  The Championship involved shooting 200 targets over four days against 650 competitors representing 24 countries.

 

·        Office Closure.  The Office will be closed for the festive season at 4.30pm on 16 December 2009 and reopen on 4 January 2010.  The Office will also only be open from 9.00 to 11.00 am and 12.00 to 1.30 pm on Saturday 12 December.

 

·        Q Store Closure.  The Q Store will be closed from 12 December 2009 and reopen on 14 January 2010.

 

·        QRA Club Reopen.  The last day of trading for the QRA Club will be Saturday 19 December 2009 and will recommence trading on 14 January 2010.

 

·        Accommodation.  Accommodation is available throughout the Christmas break.

 

·        Email Addresses.  We would like to continue to expand contact with members via email.  If individual Club members wish to receive this Newsletter by email, please send your email address to the Executive Officer QRA.  If you have previously notified an email address but have not been receiving news lately, please confirm that the Office has the correct address.

·        Queens 2009.  Queens 2009 was a great success with 370 competitors, an increase of 100 from last year.  Especially pleasing were the number of B and C Grade and F Standard shooters who participated.  The programme for 2010 will be:

o       9 August               Optical Championships

o       10-11 August       Duncan

o       12-14 August       Queens

·        Queensland Team.  Congratulations to the Queensland Team, winners of the Merrett Match for a second time in a row.

 

·        Zone Elections.  Bill Read, University RC was elected as the new Zone 1 Councillor.  The reallocation of clubs to Councillors is:

o       Bill Read - UQRC, Brisbane RC, Natives RC, Pacific RC and Qld Field and Rimfire Club

o       Rob Cadden – Central RC, Albert and District RC, City of Brisbane RC, Brisbane Mariners RC, Qld Police RC and Cannon Hill RC

o       Andrew Mayfield – Beaudesert RC, Murwillumbah RC, Ipswich and District RC and Gold Coast RC

·        Membership.  We now have 1154 Class 1 members and 1554 members of QSC.

 

·        Ladies Teams Match.  The next National Ladies Teams Matches are to be held at Malabar in September 2010.  Nominations for Captain, Manager, Coach and Shooters are to be submitted to the Executive Officer by 31 October 2009.

 

·        Queensland Team.  The next National Teams Matches are to be held at Lower Light in October 2010.  Nominations for the Captain and Manager are to be submitted to the Executive Officer by 31 October 2009.  Nominations for Coaches and Shooters are to be submitted to by 30 November 2009.

 

·        Queensland Under 25 Team.  The next National Under 25 Teams Matches are to be held at Lower Light in October 2010.  Nominations for Captain/Coach, Manager and Shooters are to be submitted to the Executive Officer by 31 October 2009.

 

 

·        National F Class Standard Teams Match.  The next National F Class Teams Matches are to be held in Canberra in November 2010.  Nominations for Captain, Manager, Coach and Shooters for both F Standard and F Open Teams are to be submitted to the Executive Officer by 31 October 2009.  F Open matches will only proceed if there is sufficient interest from the States and Territories.

 

·        Funding Assistance.  All nominees should note that funding assistance will be available to all members of these teams.

 

·        Prize Meetings 2010.  It is intended to have the QRA Calendar advertised in the first issue of the ATR next year.  To achieve this it is necessary to submit the dates to the Editor by 13 November this year.  It is requested that Clubs and DRAs confirm dates they intend to conduct Prize Meetings in 2010, by 30 September.

 

·        Pro Rata Fees.  Attached is the pro-rata fee schedule for new members for the three months from 1 October 2009.

·        Election of the Board.  Gordon Duncan and Geoff Grosskreutz were re-elected to the Board for a term of three years.  Portfolios have been confirmed as follows:

·        Board Meeting.  The next QRA Board Meeting will be held on 8 May.

 

·        Champion of Champions.  The QRA Champion of Champions competition was held on 4 April over 900 and 1000 yards.  The Senior Champion was Ashley Bidgood, with a score of 150.23.  The Under 25 Champion was Dale Arrowsmith after a shoot off with Isaac Francis.  Both Dale and Isaac scored 149.14.  Congratulations to both Ashley and Dale.

 

·        City v Country Teams Matches.  The City versus Country Teams Matches were held at Belmont for the second time, on 5 April.  The event was adjusted due to the wet condition of the range to a double 900 yards and 1000 yards.  Results were:

·        Openings.  Over the City versus Country weekend three of the facilities on Belmont have been formally named and opened.  The new Training Centre has been named in honour of Life Member Jim Rush and the main room of the QRA Club named in honour of Life Member Arthur Penwarn.  The MDRA Quadrangle was opened by the Bubb family in honour of the late Eric Bubb.

 

·        Queensland Team.  With the untimely passing of Bill Martin, it has been decided that Bill will remain as ‘Captain in absentia’ and that Gordon Duncan will take charge of the Team as Vice Captain.

 

·        Queensland Ladies Team.  Congratulations to the Ladies Team for their victory in the President’s Match and second place in the Medland Match at Bendigo.

 

·        Queensland F Class Team – Bendigo 2009.  The F Class Team participated in the inaugural NRAA competition.  Seven States were represented and our Team was in the middle of the field on both days.

 

·        Markers.  Markers are urgently required for the QRA Queens this year.  We also need to build up a pool of markers for the NRAA matches in 2010 and the World Championships in 2011.  A notice is attached calling for expressions of interest.  Please canvass your club members and their friends.

 

·        Queen’s Prize Meeting.  Clubs are requested to again consider donating to support the QPM.

 

·        Electronic Targets.  The electronic target systems purchased for trial are now available for hire by individuals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Thursday mornings.  Bookings must be made at least one week in advance.  They are also being used by the Phoenix Club on Thursday afternoons.

 

·        History Project.  Club are reminded that we are looking for contacts for the history project so that as much club information can be assembled.  It has now been confirmed that that the Association was officially formed in 1861 so the publishing of the QRA history in 2011 will be a celebration of our 150th Anniversary.

·        Queensland Ladies and F Class Teams – Bendigo 2009.  The Queensland Ladies and F Class Team will be competing in the national Ladies and F Class Teams Matches next month.  We wish them all the best.

 

·        Country V City Teams Match/Champion of Champions.  Information is attached.  The Country versus City Teams Match will be held at Belmont on 5 April 2009.  Nominations have been called for open, ladies, Under 25 and F Class Standard and F Class Open teams, to be submitted to the Executive Officer by 13 March 2009.  The Champion of Champions Championship on will be held on 4 April.  DRAs are requested to advise who their representatives will be.

 

·        Electronic Targets.  QRA has purchased two electronic target systems for trial and they will be installed on 13 March and demonstrated on 14 March at Belmont at 9.00 am.  A number of clubs have indicated interest in the possible purchase of their own targets.  Club representatives are invited to observe the demonstration and meet the supplier on that day.  It would be appreciated if representatives could confirm their attendance to the Executive Officer.

 

·        Fraser Shield.  Nominations are called for a Captain, Wind Coach and 5 shooters to contest the Fraser Shield against an NQRA team at Mackay on 3 May 2009.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 24 April.

 

·        Queensland Match Rifle Team.  The next National Match Rifle Teams Match will be held at Belmont in April 2010.  Nominations are called for Captain and Manager for the Team.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 April 2009.

 

·        Firearms Storage.  From 1 July a new fee structure for the storage of firearms is being implemented.  Any discounts provided in the past, such as the Long Term Storage Discount, Free Storage to QRA Members or Free Storage for firearms held for commission sale will no longer apply from that date.  All persons who have firearms stored will receive a letter explaining the full changes soon.

 

·        Ranges for the Queens.  Ranges for the 2009 QRA Queens Prize will be 300, 500, 600 and 600 on Day 1, 700, 800, 900 and 900 on Day 2 and 900 and 1000 on Day 3.

 

·        Introduction of the New Sierra Projectile.  The NRAA is considering the introduction of the new 155gr Sierra Palma projectile.  Councillors will be asking for member’s opinion so that QRA can form a position in relation to this proposal and advise the NRAA.  Please see your Councillor.

 

·        Appointment of Historian.  Bill Casey has been appointed and has commenced work.  A newsletter will be sent to all clubs soon outlining the types of information required and asking for a contact person in each club.

 

·        Meeting with Veterans.  A meeting with QRA veterans was held at Belmont on 31 January 2009 to discuss the process for the mounting of Queensland veteran's teams in the future so that team members will be able to access QRA support funding, as occurs with all other teams.  The 'Record of the Meeting' is attached.  Subsequent correspondence from the QVR Executive has indicated that it does not agree to, and will not follow, the process.  Further negotiation will be required as it is QRA’s goal to have funding available for the next team.

·        Work at Belmont.  Some of the work being carried out at Belmont is summarised below:

 

o       On the Duncan Range a number of mounds have been extended, new flag lines have been established, an irrigation system installed, new target numbers numbered 01 to 47 are being completed and the target gallery is being extended to cater for 47 targets.

o       The chalets will be available from mid May.

o       Proving range being developed as part of a multi user range on the left hand side of the Duncan Range..

o       The 1200 yd match rifle gallery has been repaired.

o       The museum is being developed at the rear of the QRA Club and further extensions will be made to the outside area of the Club.
