DECEMBER 2006 NEWSLETTER

 

·        Enclosures.  The following documents and notices are enclosed with this Newsletter:

·        Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  The President and Board of QRA extend their best wishes for Christmas and New Year to the Clubs and Members of QRA.

 

·        2007 Calendar.  Enclosed is the draft 2007 Calendar.  From 9 January a new club ‘Commercial’ will be operating on the same basis as the Phoenix Club, on Tuesdays from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm.  The point of contact is Allan Jamieson 07 32454362.

 

·        Nominations for Board and Council.  Nominations are called for 1 Board member and a Councillor in each Zone.  Nomination forms have been forwarded with the email copy of this newsletter and are available from the Executive Officer.   Applicants are required to submit a CV with their application.   Nominations close 31 January 2007.

 

·        State Coaching Director.  Meredith Nestor has been appointed as the State Coaching Director.

 

·        Office Closure.  The Office will be closed for the festive season at 12.00pm on 22 December 2006 and reopen on 8 January 2007.

 

·        Q Store Closure.  The last trading day of the Q Store for ammunition and components only will be 8 December 2006, for.  It will then be closed for end of year stocktake and conversion to a bar code system.  The Q Store will reopen on 4 January 2007.

 

·        Club Returns.  Club returns have been distributed to all clubs.  It would be appreciated if these could be returned as quickly as possible.  It should be noted that clubs are being requested to advise an email contact if possible.

 

·        Prize Meeting Notices.  If clubs wish to have their Prize Meeting Notices posted on the QRA website, please email an electronic copy to the Executive Officer.

 

·        ATR Dates.  Dates for submission of notices and copy for inclusion in the ATR are shown below:.

·        Vale Geoff Wockner.  It is with sadness that we advise that Geoff Wockner passed away on Thursday.  His funeral will be held at Burstow’s Chapel Toowoomba at 10.00 am on Tuesday 12 December.

·        Barbados Team.  The following QRA members were members of the NRAA Team which competed in Barbados recently: Rod Bickell, Michael Hobbs, John Caske, Alec Pettigrew, Bill Read, Kim and Catherine O’Loghlen, Helen Griffiths, Bill Baker, Ed Murray and Rod Prayle.  Congratulations to Helen and Bill who were placed first and third in the individual championships respectively.

 

·        Prize Meetings 2007.  Clubs are requested to forward their request for approval of Prize Meeting dates for 2007, so that they can be considered by the Board and the calendar can be confirmed.

 

·        Prize Meeting Results.  Clubs who conduct Prize Meetings are reminded that results should be forwarded to QRA as quickly as possible after the meeting.  QRA can only notify members and clubs of any upgrading that has occurred if the results are received in a timely manner.  The onus of ensuring that members are upgraded if applicable also lies with the club and the member.

 

·        Queensland Team.  Congratulations to Bill Martin and Catherine Berry who have been appointed Captain and Manager respectively of the Queensland Team to compete in Canberra in November 2007.  Nominations are called for the positions of Coaches and Shooters.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2006.

 

·        Queensland Under 25 Team.  Congratulations to Ernie Mace and Brian Whalan who have been appointed Captain/Coach and Manager respectively of the Queensland Under 25 Team to compete in Canberra in November 2007.  Nominations are called for the positions of Shooters.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2006.

 

·        Queensland Ladies Team.  Congratulations to Catherine O’Loghlen who has been appointed Captain of the Queensland Ladies Team to compete in South Australia in September 2007.  Nominations are called for the positions of Manager, Coach and Shooters.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2006.

 

·        Queensland Match Rifle Team.  Congratulations to Kerod Lindley and Peter Hill who have been appointed Captain and Manager respectively of the Queensland Match Rifle Team to compete at Belmont in August 2007.  Nominations are called for the positions of Coach and Shooters.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2006.

 

·        Queensland Veterans Team.  QRA has just been notified that the next National Veterans Teams Matches will be held at Bendigo in March 2007.  Nominations are called for the positions of Captain, Manager, Coach and Shooters.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2006.

 

·        2007 Fees.  Attached is the 2007 fee schedule.

 

·        1000 Yards Benchrest.  An introduction to 1000 yard benchrest shooting is to be held on 26 November 2006 at the International Range.  Members interested are requested to advise the Executive Officer by 22 November.

·        Tasmanian Queens Prize.  The Tasmanian Rifle Association has confirmed that the Tasmanian Queens Prize will be conducted again at Pontville from 22 to 26 January 2007.

 

·        Funding Assistance.  The next round of country club financial assistance has been extended to 17 November.  Guidelines and application forms can be obtained from the Office.

 

·        Email Addresses.  We would like to expand contact with members via email.  If individual Club members wish to receive this Newsletter by email, please send your email address to the Executive Officer QRA.  If you have previously notified an email address but have not been receiving news lately, please confirm that the Office has the correct address.

QRA JUNIOR SHOOTING TRAINING 14-15 Oct 06 & 2-4 Mar 07

 

·        QRA Junior Training.  The QRA is running full bore training for junior shooters at Belmont Range 14-15 Oct 06 and 2-4 Mar 07.   A detailed activity plan has been posted and emailed to all Club Secretaries.   The cost is $39 for the first weekend and $72 for the second weekend which includes ammunition and range fees.   More information is available from Meredith or Rex at the office.   Nominations to Rex qra@qldrifle.com, or by fax, mail or phone to the QRA office.   We are looking to develop potential shooters for the Qld State Under 25 team and the NRAA Junior Development Camp to be run at Belmont 9-16 Dec 06 so sponsor a Junior and invest in the future of rifle shooting.

·        1000 Yards Benchrest.  It is intended to hold a meeting to ascertain if there is any interest in developing the 1000 yard benchrest discipline at Belmont.  The meeting will be held at QTS (the Small Bore Association) at 7.00 pm on Monday 18 September.

 

·        NRAA Junior Development Camp.  The NRAA will be conducting a junior development camp, run by Bruce Scott, in the period 9-16 December at Belmont.  The camp will be self-funded although the NRAA is seeking financial assistance.  Nominees must be between 16 to 23 years.  Please forward nominations to the QRA office.  Any inquiries can be directed to Bruce Scott Mob 0427 026235 or email Bruce.scott@defence.gov.au

 

·        Cardboard for Targets.  QRA has some 2400x1800x6mm cardboard for sale at $10 per sheet.  First in best dressed.

  • National Teams Matches.  Congratulations to the Senior and Under 25 Teams who recently competed in the National Teams Matches at Belmont.  The Senior Team won the Ferg Beattie Match (dropping only three points at 1000 yards), the Macarthur Onslow Match and the McGowan and Sweet Aggregates.  The Under 25 Team won the Victoria Match at 1000 yards.

 

  • Fraser Shield.  The Fraser Shield which is contested annually between QRA and NQRA was overlayed on the fifteen shot matches at the National Teams Matches with QRA being victorious.

  • Explosives Bulletin.  Enclosed is a summary of recent information from the Chief Inspector of Explosives Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water, in relation to the sale of propellant powder.  Unfortunately QRA is required to treat every purchaser as a ‘new client’ and go through a process of validation of identity.  To save any hold ups at the Q Store when you buy your next lot of powder, please ensure that you have both your Driver’s Licence (or other form of photographic ID which has an address on it) and Firearms Licence with you so that the staff can take a copy of these licences.  It would be appreciated if clubs which hold a ‘Licence to Sell Explosives’ could advise the Executive Officer.   Explosives Declaration Form.

 

  • Queens Catering.  For the past three Queens we have been treated to wonderful meals provided by Kay and Bob Skelton.  Unfortunately Kay has advised that she will no longer be able to provide this service.  On behalf of all members and visitors I wish to record our sincere appreciation for their efforts.

  • Funding Assistance.  Funding assistance to 7 clubs, totalling $16455, has recently been approved.

 

  • Volunteer Small Equipment Grants 2006.  Enclosed is information on the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants for 2006.

  • Board Meeting.  The next QRA Board Meeting will be held on 16 June.

 

  • Simulation Training.  Training in the use of the simulator ‘Beamhit’ will be conducted at Goondiwindi on 13/14 May 2006.  This will be a prelude to the purchase of a simulator by the Club, with a subsidy from QRA under the Country Club Assistance Programme.  Any other clubs that may be interested in purchasing a simulator and attending this training, are requested to contact the Executive Officer.

 

  • Clinics and Coaching Course.  Due to a lack of nominations, the clinics planned for 29 April to 1 May, and the coaching course, 13/14 May, have been cancelled.

 

  • Range Officers for Queens.  Range Officers are required for both the National and QRA Queens.  Members interested are requested to forward an Expression of Interest to the Executive Officer by 30 May 2006.

 

  • Marking for Queens.  Markers are required for both the National and QRA Queens in June and August respectively.  Please contact Karen at the QRA Office if you are available.

 

·        Queen’s Prize Meeting.  Clubs are requested to consider again donating to support the QPM.

 

  • Queensland Match Rifle Team – Cooryong 2006.  Nominations are called for Captain, Manager, Wind Coaches and Shooters for the Queensland Match Rifle Team to compete at the National Match Rifle Championships at Cooryong, November 2006.  Nominations are to be forwarded to Executive Officer by 30 June 2006.

 

  • S.S.R’s  Amendment.  The Board of the NRAA has amended the following rule at their meeting of 7/8 April to take effect immediately:

 

  • Rule 3.1.7.4  Add the following after the word ‘apply.’ “The foresight may contain a single clear or coloured magnifying lens with a maximum power of 0.5 dioptres (focal length of 2 metres).”
