DECEMBER 2004 NEWSLETTER

  • Enclosures.  The following documents and notices are enclosed with this Newsletter (to Club Secretaries):
    • Minutes of the QRA Special General Meeting held on 27 November 2004.
    • QRA Calendar for 2005.
    • Explosives Information Bulletin No 25.
    • WDRA Prize Meeting Notice.
    • SEDRA Prize Meeting Notice.
  • Expressions of Interest.  In the October Newsletter it was advised that QRA intended to convert various areas of accommodation at Belmont into self contained units, and expressions of interest from QRA Class 1 members to invest, were sought.  In addition to developing the current accommodation areas, it is now planned to establish some self contained huts.  The investor would be asked to provide funds for the construction of these huts and be offered a preferential lease on the units, at terms to be negotiated.  Expressions of interest in this newest venture are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 21 January 2005.
  • Prize Meeting Notices.  If clubs wish to have their Prize Meeting Notices posted on the QRA website, please email an electronic copy to the Executive Officer.
  • Office Closure.  The Office will be closed for the festive season at 12.00pm on  17 December 2004 and reopen on 4 January 2005.
  • Q Store Closure.  The last trading day of the Q Store for the year will be 16 December 2004.  It will then be closed for end of year stocktake.  The Q Store will reopen on 5 January 2005.  For urgent orders during the closed period, Michael Hobbs may be contacted on 54957929.
  • Club Returns.  Club returns have been distributed to all clubs.  It would be appreciated if these could be returned as quickly as possible.  It should be noted that clubs are being requested to advise an email contact if possible.
  • ATR Dates.  Dates for submission of notices and copy for inclusion in the ATR next year have not yet been received from the Editor.  As soon as these dates are finalised, clubs will be advised.

  • Queensland Ladies Team.  Reminder.  Nominations are called for the positions of Captain, Coach and shooters for the Ladies Team to compete at Belmont in August 2005 as shown below.  Nominations are to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2004.

  • Club Administrator’s Workshop.  Reminder.  Club Administrator’s workshops will conducted by Michael Sheehan at Belmont on 6 November and Toowoomba on 20 November from 9.00 am to 12.00.  The workshop will cover funding sources and applications, managing club accounts, responsibilities of club office bearers, and legislative requirements to operate a range and club.  Please advise interest in attending to the Executive Officer.

SEPTEMBER 2004 NEWSLETTER 

·          Shooting by Unlicensed Persons.  Under the Weapons Act it is necessary for unlicensed persons to complete a Form 33 Declaration each time they shoot.  These forms must be retained by the Club for 3 years.

 

·          Incident Reporting.  You will have read in the latest copy of the ATR, that the NRAA will be inserting a section in relation to ‘Best Practice’.  Reference is made to an NRAA ‘Standard Incident Form’.  The form is enclosed with this Newsletter.  Should there be an incident on a range, it is requested that the form be submitted to QRA within 24 hours of the incident occurring.

 

·          Grading.  You will have noted in ATR 52 that the grading percentages have been changed with effect I July 2004.  This means that clubs will need to consider regrading members if appropriate.

 

·          AR2206H.  You will also note from ATR 52 that AR2206H propellant is now approved for use.

 

·          MAB Barrel Ban.  The NRAA has banned the use of all stainless steel barrels as at the 9 September 2004.  A memorandum explaining the decision is enclosed with this Newsletter.

 

·          Queensland Ladies Team.  The Ladies Teams Matches will be held at Belmont in conjunction with the QRA Queens in August 2005.  Nominations are called for the positions of Captain, Coach and shooters, to be forwarded to the Executive Officer by 30 November 2004.

JULY 2004 NEWSLETTER

 ·          QRA Board.  The casual vacancy on the Board, following the resignation of Ken McLachlan, has been filled by Bill Martin from Natives RC.

 ·          Strategic Planning.  The Strategic Planning weekend was most successful with many issues surfacing which the Board will progressively address.  All present agreed that membership and participation were the priority issues and the key was to have vibrant and well managed clubs.  Emphasis will now be directed to supporting clubs, initially by conducting workshops to examine initiatives which could be implemented at club level.

 ·          QRA Restructure Information Session.  John Johnstone will be giving a presentation during the Queens on further proposals for the restructure QRA and amendments to the Constitution.  The session will be held at the Small Bore Range on Friday night 13 August commencing at 7.00 pm.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

 ·          The Q Store.  Michael Hobbs has now taken over the operation of the QRA Shop, now named ‘The Q Store’.  The Store will be open at Belmont from Wednesday to Saturday each week.  The telephone number is 07 38435377.  Orders can be phoned through 7 days a week.  If there is any item you are looking for, contact Michael.

 ·          QRA Website.  A new website has been launched at www.qldrifle.com

 ·          QRA Email.  The QRA email address has changed to qra@qldrifle.com  If you wish to communicate with members of the staff just send to their given name @qldrifle.com

 ·          Gun Amnesty.  A six-month gun amnesty commenced on 1 July 2004.  Any person who wishes to bring an unregistered firearm onto their licence must firstly have it identified by a Dealer.  For information contact Greg Rush at the QRA Office.

 ·          Range Register.  Weapons Licensing Branch has now altered the Range Register Form 20 and introduced two forms:

     o         Form 20A:             Club – Range Use Register (Category H Only)

        o         Form 20B            Club – Range Use Register (Other Than Category H)

 ·          Range Danger Boundary Signs.  Range boundary signs are available from the Store.

 ·          Range Officer Course.  It is planned to conduct a Range Officer Office Course on Thursday 12 August, commencing at 7.00 pm.  Please make bookings direct to Greg at the Office.

 ·          2004 Coach Education.  For those interested Level 1 and 2 General Principles of Coaching courses are available at: http://www/hrs.uq.edu.au/cpase/coaching.htm .

 ·          Membership Form.  An amended membership application form is enclosed.

 ·          Firearm Security.  Following an incident on the Duncan Range, where a member’s rifle was stolen from his car, all members are advised to remain vigilant and ensure that rifles are secure at all times.  A Notice in relation to this is enclosed.

·          Board Meeting.  The next QRA Board Meeting will be held on 28 May. 

·          Corporate Planning.  A reminder that clubs are invited to attend a corporate planning ‘brain storming’ session on 29 May.  Interested members are requested to contact the Executive Officer for details.

·          Form 33A.  The Police Form 33 must be completed when an unlicensed person shoots on a range.  There is now a new Form 33 A which is available to cover activities such as open days, where a number of unlicensed persons are shooting.  A copy is enclosed with this Newsletter.

·          First Aid.  Over the past three weeks there have been safety incidents on ranges, requiring the administration of first aid.  Please ensure that you have procedures, including adequate first aid kits on the range, to cover incidents which may arise.

·          Shooter of the Year.  Nominations for the Shooter of the Year to be submitted to the Executive Officer by mid May.  There are three categories: open, junior (under 21) and disabled.

·          From the CRO.  Enclosed with this Newsletter are two memos from the CRO, in relation to firing point flags and range registers.

·          Shooter of the Year.  Nominations for the Shooter of the Year to be submitted to the Executive Officer by mid May.  There are three categories: open, junior (under 21) and disabled.

·          Shop.  A stock of 69 gr loaded ammunition has unexpectedly arrived.  Also, please note that 155 gr projectiles in future will come in packs of 500  @ $142 (cash) and $146 (credit).

FEBRUARY 2004 NEWSLETTER

Patron.  The Premier of Queensland, The Honourable Peter Beattie MP, has accepted the invitation to be Patron of QRA.

Obituary.  It is with regret that we advise the passing of Don (DAT) Reay on 18 February 2004.  Our sympathies have been passed to his wife Delores, and their family.

AGM.  The QRA Annual General Meeting will be held at 11.00 am, 20 March in the QRA Dining Room.

Board Meeting.  The QRA Board Meeting will be held on 19 March.

Prize Meetings:
The South Burnett/Wondai PM programmed for 27/28 March has been cancelled due to suspension of the Range Approval.

The Natives and Raglan PMs are being held at Easter.

The Clermont PM will be held on 24/25 April.

Queen’s Prize Meeting.  The programme will be the same as 2003 except that the Duncan and Zillman Teams matches will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon, after the completion of the Duncan.  Clubs are requested to consider again donating to support the QPM.

Fraser Shield.  Nominations are called for Coach & Shooters (5) to represent QRA in the Fraser Shield Match to be conducted at Mackay at the end of April.

Veterans.  The Queensland Veterans would like to contact any members who are 60 years or over who may wish to join their organization.  Please contact Bob or Kay Skelton on 32075226.
