Southern Downs District Rifle Association
Warwick Prize Shoot - Risdon Range, Warwick

15th & 16th May 2010 - Warwick Prize Shoot
Percy Gartner Memorial Shield and SDDRA Prize Shoot

Warialda shooter dominant at Warwick

Top NSW shooter Matt Taylor scooped the prize pool at the Southern Downs District Rifle Association Prize Meeting held at Warwick over the weekend. The popular event attracted a strong field of 85 shooters from across northern NSW and southern Queensland, competing over distances from 300 to 600 yards.

Mr. Taylor, a member of Warialda Rocky Dam Rifle Club, won the Percy Gartner Memorial Shield on Saturday, the Southern Downs Prize Shoot on Sunday and the Grand Aggregate. He dropped just two shots across the weekend for an aggregate score of 298 with 38 centre bulls. Mr. Taylor who has a mixed farming property about 100 km east of Moree, has been a regular competitor at Warwick over 20 years and this was his third win in the event. He is a member of the Australian squad practicing to compete in the world championships in Brisbane in October next year.

Maryborough shooter Rod Prayle was in good form across the weekend, finishing runner up on both days, for an aggregate score of 298.29.  Jim Dickenson from Pratten was third with 296.30.

Shooters made the most of favourable weather conditions on Sunday, posting some outstanding scores, led by a 50.9 over 500 yards by Alan Gray from the Gold Coast Rifle Club.

The B grade competition was won by Adrian Mende, North Arm, with an aggregate 292.25.  Jim Choice from Goondiwindi took out the C grade while club mate Lowell Tillack won the strong F Standard scope class.  Brisbane shooter Kelvin Bell won the F Open class.
